Meishan is in the southwest of Chengdu Plain, Sichuan Basin, and in the middle of Minjiang River. Adjoining to the capital city Chengdu on the north and Leshan on the south, near Neijiang, Ziyang and Zigong on the east and Ya’an in the west, it is a key area of Chengdu-Leshan Golden Gallery, and a major part of “Chengdu Plain Economic Circle”.Dongpo District where Meishan Municipal Government is located is only 70 km from Chengdu and 80km from Mt. Emei, and 60km from Leshan Grand Buddha; near Chengdu Shuangliu Airport about 40 km on the north, and Leshan Jetty for Large Cargo about 70 km on the south. Chengdu-Leshan Highway, National Highway No.213 and Minjiang Channel runs parallel through south to north in Meishan, and Ya’an-Hongya-Meishan-Renshou-Neijiang-Zigong (Provincial Highway No.106) runs across east to west, with Chengdu-Leshan (Leshan) Highway and Chengdu-Ya’an (Ya’an) Highway joining here too; County and town “beautiful standard road” road network is developed in link, which enhances the road grade and capacity greatly; “grain-shaped” mainstay road network and “Half An Hour Economic Circle” is shaped as well as “An Hour Chengdu”. Chengdu-Kuming Railway from north to south runs through Pengshan County and Dongpo District, which is the main channel of goods and people for areas nearby. Therefore, the crisscrossed transportation network in all directions is formed.
Meishan Region is formally established in May 1997, governing the 6 counties set aside from Leshan – Meishan, Renshou, Pengshan, Hongya, Danleng, Qingshen. And Meishan Region is cancelled to establish prefecture-level city Meishan in June 2000, and Meishan is formally established by hanging plaque in December 2000. Meishan Municipal People’s Government is located in Dongpo District, governing the original Meishan Region - Renshou, Pengshan, Hongya, Danleng, Qingshen and the newly established Dongpo District. It covers a size of 7,186 square km, with a population of 3.4985 million. There are totally 69 towns, 59 villages, 3 sub-district offices, 158 communities, 982 residents groups, 1186 village communities, and 9072 villagers groups.
Meishan cultural tourism resources include Dongpo culture, longevity culture, Taoism, Buddhism, bamboo culture, water culture etc., also including successive Meishan Dongpo Cultural Festival, Pengzu Longevity Star Festival, Qingshen Bamboo Weaving Arts Festival, Danleng Suona Festival and so on.

What is famous: Renshou - Helongtan all-fish banquet, sesame cake, dried hot beef, twice-cooked sheep, twice-cooked fish, Wengong loquat, Cao’s pear; Dongpo century egg; Dongpo District – Dongpo pork, Dongpo meat, Dongpo fish, longan crisp, Meishan navel, national quality Sansu wine; Pengshan – Pengzu wine, sweet-skin duck; Hongya – Ya fish, rattan pepper oil, Washanchun wine, Daoquan alpine green tea and various picnics; Qingshen – Jiangtuan fish, Hanyang chicken, Zhongyan roasted whole lamb, Qingshen orange. And Dongpo pork, Dongpo fish, Dongpo centry egg, sesame cake is specially famous in home and abroad. Crafts: Qingshen bamboo craft, Phoenix Ceramics Craft of Renshou and so on.
